New Release Kindle Unlimited Shane's Bride by Kathleen Ball #ASMSG #IARTG

Announcing the Release of
Shane's Bride
Mail Order Brides of Texas
By Kathleen Ball

Rescued from Indians, Cecily McGuinness suffers from horrendous nightmare; ones that have her running from her lodging into the woods. She’ll never be normal again and most of the townspeople look at her with disdain. All she ever wanted was a family and a place to call home.

Sheriff Shane O'Connor is tired of tracking Cecily down each time she takes flight. Finally he makes her an offer to keep his house and help turn it into a farm. Her past doesn’t taint her in his eyes. In fact he finds himself very attracted to her but keeps his distance. She’d suffered enough at the hands of Long Nose.

Amid cheating gamblers, old friends who unexpectedly show up and a fire, a closeness develops between them. Cecily believes she isn’t fit to be a wife anymore. Can Shane convince her heart and soul that she is indeed worthy of a great love?

Excerpt

He slowly walked to her, concern etched on his face. “I scared you, didn’t I? I’m sorry,” he said in a soft voice. Reaching out he cupped her shoulders in his big hands. “I want you to feel safe here. You were lost in thought.” He cocked his brow and slightly tilted his head as though waiting for an answer.

“I suppose I was.” She took a big step back, escaping his hands. His hands didn’t scare her as much as her reaction to them. A warm tingling feeling coursed through her body. Her heart continued to beat fast, but now it wasn’t out of fear.

Keegan Quinn watches the passengers disembark wondering where his mail order bride is. All he sees is a woman with a husband and child. Upon approaching the young woman, he discovers she is his bride, and she has a daughter she never mentioned. As they cross the street, the little girl screams for her daddy and points to the man who accompanied them on the stage.
Rancher Keegan Quinn is furious. The married woman swindled him into paying passage for her and her child. It was fool hardy to think a mail order bride would want him. He rides out of town as fast as he can, vowing never to look back. It’s a loco dream to think he can have a family while constantly looking over his shoulder.
Addy has no idea why Peg calls the new sheriff daddy. It cost her, Keegan, the man she hoped to make a life with. She has many secrets, but the sheriff is not one of them. She needs Keegan to keep her safe from her past in Boston. Once he learns the truth, he’ll send her back, but it’s a chance she’s willing to take.
Can two people who have so much love to give, realize they actually love each other?

Excerpt:
Tears filled her eyes. “I didn’t know what you’d do when we both showed up.”
“You’re here now. It’ll be fine. Here let me take her.” He eased the baby out of Addy’s arms and held her close. “What’s her name?”
“Peg.”
A terrible shriek filled the air as Peg woke up. Startled he almost dropped her. She looked wildly around until she saw the man from the stagecoach. She pointed and yelled, “Daddy!”
The world slowed as Keegan turned toward the man, only to have Peg shriek yet again. Something wasn’t right and he wasn’t about to be fleeced of all his hard earned money. “Hey, Mister, come get your child.” He put Peg back into Addy’s arms and walked away. He hurried best he could to his horse, mounted and headed out of town. He didn’t look back.
The longer he rode, the madder he got. He pulled lightly on the reins and slowed his horse, Strike to a stop. It would be one thing if only the woman was involved in cheating him, but the man with her needed to take a few lumps for his part. Keegan had worked too long and too hard to allow anyone to cheat him. Damn! What was he supposed to do now?
“The hell with it!” he yelled into the hot, dry Texas wind. He didn’t need complications. Right now he had cattle to take care of and it wasn’t easy starting a ranch alone. He’d been on his own too long.

Excerpt

Samantha tried wrapping her scarf around her head, but the weight of the hardened ice kept dragging it down. The naysayers were right, winter came early—very early and with a vengeance. She stared at the pure white snow dotted with Ponderosa pines. Their branches bowed from the snowy burden. She’d doubted her survival the minute they banned her from the wagon train but as she walked away, she grew determined to survive. What a difference a few weeks made. As soon as the storm hit two days ago, her doubts returned.
She took a step and stumbled. The hem of her dress, caked with icy snow, made it hard going. With each step, her feet punched through the snow and sank. Her hands stung from the biting cold. Soon she wouldn’t feel them anymore. She knew the signs of frostbite. Pushing herself upright she struggled on, one exhausting step at a time.
The wind howled and she wanted to cry at its sad song. She’d been on her own for two long weeks now. How she hated the pious women she’d traveled with. The death of her parents left her alone and a woman alone was not allowed on the wagon train. The married women believed she’d entice their husbands. The same women whose children she nursed when they were sick. The hypocrisy ate at her soul.
It was either marry Old Thomas or leave. She refused to marry, calling their bluff. Unfortunately, it wasn’t a bluff. They threw her a sack of food and a canteen of water and left her behind.
Again, she fell face first into the snow. Struggling to rise, she shook her head. Maybe it’d be easier to just lay there and fall into a forever sleep. Her food was long ago eaten and her strength had held out surprisingly long, but now she wasn’t sure it was worth the effort.
A horse nickered and she pushed herself up. Her heart skipped a beat in fright. On the horse sat a huge man covered in animal furs. His rifle lay across his lap.
“Get up,” he said, his voice full of anger.
Samantha pushed and struggled until she stood. This was it. She just hoped her death would be painless. Putting her frigid hands on her hips, she brazenly studied him. His slate blue eyes were full of compassion. He held out his hand. She grasped it and he hauled her up in front of him.
“Let’s get you warm.” He opened his fur coat, pulled her against his warm body, and wrapped them both up. “Where are your people?”
“My people?”
“Yes, do you have a cabin here bouts? You shouldn’t be out here alone. It’s dangerous and in the snow it’s easy to get lost.”
Turning her head, she felt his warm breath against her cheek. His full beard brushed against her. “I’m on my own. I was hoping to find a town.”
He didn’t say anything else as he urged his steed forward. It was slow going in the snow but the horse seemed to know its way. Leaning back against his wide chest, her eyes closed.

Bad Boy Blog Hop

Meet Cinders he’s not really a Bad Boy but he’s Bad Ass

EXCERPT
The world seemed eerily quiet as she pushed herself up from the

hard packed dirt, only to fall back down. Her ankle hurt. Tears

filled her eyes, as she glanced around. There stood the women from

the mercantile, staring, and their eyes full of terror. She’d get no

 assistance from them.

John Hardy strutted into the street and laughed while he gestured

for two of his men to pick her up. “Come on, honey, it’s time for

our honeymoon.”

She heard the clomping of hooves and the turn of wagon wheels

behind her but the wagon didn’t stop to help her either. By this

time, a crowd had gathered and now there were men standing with

the group of women. She tried to plead for help with her eyes but

 they glanced away.

Two men grabbed at her to haul her back into the saloon when a

loud cocking of a gun erupted from behind.
“Put her down.” A man's voice threatened.
John stepped forward, thrusting out his chest. “Listen, Cinders, this

is none of your business. It’d be in your best interest to leave

things be.”

The world began to dim and spin, the smell of blood was the last

 straw. She fainted.

Read What the Buzz is All About- Cinders' Bride - Mail Order Brides of Texas- #ASMSG #IAN1 #IARTG

  Best Selling Western Romance

Cinders' Bride by Kathleen Ball

See what critics are saying about it-

From Amazon Reviewers--

Loved it

I absolutely loved this book! I don't usually read these kind of books but this one had me hooked on the first page! Loved it and I can't wait to read more by Kathleen Ball!

Loved this book. Shannon triumphed all kinds of hardships. Can't wait for book 2

Loved it! Once again Kathy Ball wrote a fantastic read!

Cinder's Bride is a sweet adventure of a city girl who agreed to be a mail order bride out to the wild West. Shannon had a difficult childhood which prepared her to face adversity and overcome. Cinder, recently widowed, cannot resist the wholesome, beauty of his tenacious bride. The romance blossoms gently and grows deeper with each frontier challenge. It's an energetic, fun read.

I enjoyed this book quite a bit. The story was different from other mail order brides I've read. The characters were interesting and enjoyable.

I loved Cinder's Bride. It had all the qualities I could count on from Kathleen Ball - sweet, sexy romance, hot cowboys, vulnerable yet strong characters - but it was different at the same time. I loved Kathleen's first time-period romance. She obviously did her research, because I felt as though I was back in that world as I read this story. I'm excited to read the next book in this series. I highly recommend Cinder's Bride.

Stories Written to a Word Prompt. Free Reads #TT1 #ASMSG #IARTG @kballauthor

The Word Prompt this Week is RANDOM
Welcome to Tuesday Tales
This is a continuation of my Mountain Man Historical Novel

Both of his guests were sleeping he couldn’t help but watch them. What to make of the whole situation he had no idea. Samantha, so positive of her story and Brian very convincible about his. The boy had the same coloring as Samantha. Blood would always tell. It was a saying he’d heard repeatedly. It was the very reason he lived away from the rest of the world. He’d lived in so-called polite society most of his life but as soon as his da died, he took off. There wasn’t anything or anyone in town for him. People liked his da well enough but their good will didn’t extend to his half-breed son.

No sense bemoaning his past. He like Brian was just an innocent lad. No one would lay another hand on the boy. No one helped him, but he’ll do the right thing and help someone who couldn’t defend himself.

Grabbing his bedroll from the corner, behind his pile of furs, he lay it out in front of the fireplace and lay on it. Sleep came easier than anticipated.

The sounds of whispers woke him with a start and quick as lightening he was on his feet. His face heated at the startled expressions on Samantha and Brian’s faces. “Sorry, I forgot you were here. It’s good to be fast on your feet out here.”

Samantha nodded but Brian’s brows furrowed. Poor kid probably had to be fast on his feet to try to avoid random beatings. Though it didn’t appear, he’d been successful. His eyes narrowed and he shook his head. How could his ma allow it to happen? Many women were afraid of their husbands and were beaten too but Samantha wasn’t full of marks on her body.

She hadn’t asked about him undressing her when he rescued her and put her to bed and it was just as well. It would have made for some awkward conversation. It was an image he couldn’t forget.

She was beautiful, the type of woman who would never allow him to touch her.

“Good Morning! If you’ll move you things from the fireplace I’ll make us some tea and breakfast.”

He closed his eyes—a morning person he wasn’t but apparently Samantha was extra cheery in the morning. After he folded up his bedroll and put it back in the corner, he pulled on his boots and grabbed his coat. “I need to… I’m going to get more wood and water.”

“You’re leaving?” Brian’s eyes widened and he wrapped his arms around his middle.

“Really, I’ll be as quick as I can.”

Brian nodded and Samantha leaned down, putting her arms around his small frame. “You can help me cook.”

He nodded again but he didn’t take his gaze off Patrick.

“Go on.” She moved her hand as if waving him out the door.

Once outside, he paused and looked back at the cabin. So much for solitude. It was a shame the poor boy didn’t trust anyone. It was one of those life lessons learned the hard way. He hoped Solomon was out there frozen to death. No, death was too easy; he hoped the bastard was suffering in the blizzard without food or shelter. He made his way to the barn and Ahearn snorted in greeting.

“Guess we’re going to have a few extra mouths to feed for a bit. Samantha is too bright and happy. I mean she brightens the place up but I’m used to gloomy silence. And the boy, if someone doesn’t teach him to trust soon, he may never trust anyone.”

Ahern butted his shoulder with his nose. “I know, old boy, just like me. Looks like it’s going to be snowshoes for a while. The snow is getting too deep for me to take you with me. Wish I was alone, I’d hunt down that thieving Solomon and get my furs back, but I promised I’d stay around. Glad a have you to talk to.” He patted Ahern’s muscled flank and walked toward the cabin. He’d stick around for the day but starting tomorrow, he had traps to check.
